Spa & Massage in Patong, Phuket

The Land of Smiles is known not only for its wonderful tourist attractions, exotic food, friendly people and countless leisure activities but is also known for the unique massage experience it gives to its visitors. Massage has been proven by many researches to be an effective way to reduce pain, stress, and anxiety. In Phuket, a vast number of these massage places are available everywhere. Normally, the types of massage available in these places are: Traditional Thai massage, Swedish massage, Oil massage, Shiatsu/ Acupressure, and Foot Massage.

Thai massage is a common type of massage being offered in massage shop. It’s quite painful but definitely rejuvenating. This type of massage aims to balance and realign the body’s natural energies. It usually lasts for 2 hours wherein the therapist will apply pressure in the body as well as stretching and compressing of the muscles. Swedish massage on the other hand, is a traditional European massage that uses oil before rubbing or tapping the muscles in the body. It soothes pain and tension, and stimulates the nervous system. Oil massage is another type of massage available in massage centers in Phuket which comes from the traditional Thai massage but uses other techniques like aromatherapy and Ayurveda.

Shiatsu which literally means finger pressure is a form of massage administered by thumb, fingers, palms, forearms, elbows, and feet to apply pressure. It has the same principles as acupuncture but without the needles. Lastly, the Foot massage. Foot massage or reflexology is based on the concept that there are reflex points in the hands and feet that correspond to organs and nerves throughout the body. Thus, reflexologists use pressure and kneading to stimulate these points. In Patong, prices for a massage may usually start at 200 Baht an hour, perhaps more expensive as compared to other places in Phuket Island.
